Why We Ditched English Worksheets for Real-World Business Systems

What happens when you look past traditional grammar drills and sit down with a Grade 8 student to map out marketing funnels, analyze real-world ad campaigns, and run a mock investor pitch?

Traditional education would say this is “too advanced.” At The English Crew, we call it Session 12.

When Imm’s parents first reached out to us for specialized communication strategy, it was immediately clear that Imm wasn’t a typical student. She was highly intelligent, focused, and already fluent in both spoken and written Chinese. Her primary ambition is to secure a spot in Chulalongkorn University’s prestigious Dentistry program. But what truly set her apart was her strategic depth—she had already mapped out a clear Plan B and Plan C, which included studying Business Administration in China or pursuing Engineering in Thailand.

Her parents chose The English Crew because they noticed something different about our methodology: we don’t just teach English; we integrate real-world business strategy and life skills into our curriculum.

At the time, our brand was actively pivoting to coach high-performing executives and corporate professionals exclusively. However, the moment I learned about Imm’s character, I knew we had to accept her. Beyond her studies, Imm actively helps her family operate their Hainanese food brand, ข้าวมันไก่ไหหน่ำหนั่ง สูตรไหหลำแท้ดั้งเดิม. Like so many established food businesses navigating today’s market, they were facing the modern hurdle of digital optimization.

That is exactly where our trajectory shifted, and the Junior Executive English Course was born.

Instead of standard, repetitive grammar drills, we threw Imm into an executive crash course. I shared the exact marketing automation systems I use to run our own restaurant business, Ning’s Thai, remotely from overseas, analyzing her family’s current brand positioning side-by-side. Together, we opened up live ad sets and looked under the hood of technical digital advertising, allowing her to see how global brands actually capture attention, target demographics, and influence consumers in real life.

The culmination of this work was nothing short of brilliant. Imm shared her vision for her future dental clinic—a unique, Harry Potter-themed space designed to completely redefine the patient experience.

When it came time to pitch this concept to a mock investor, she didn’t pause, freeze, or hesitate. She walked through the different business scenarios seamlessly, throwing out cost-effective strategies to test the market using a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approach.

At just 14 years old, Imm isn’t just learning vocabulary. She is practicing strategic communication, using language as a tool of professional influence, and building the “speed of trust” required to command a room of mentors and peers.

By anchoring her development in proven mental models—like Stephen Covey’s “Begin with the End in Mind”—Imm has become laser-focused on her long-term career strategy. More importantly, she has developed the self-awareness to know that if Plan A encounters friction, she simply needs to rely on her grit, recalibrate, and try again.

We aren’t just teaching a language. We are nurturing the whole person—developing young, entrepreneurial minds who can confidently walk across a corporate boardroom, command attention, and pitch their ideas to the world.

Transformation is in the works. Watch this space.
